HOW DO WE RESPOND TO CHURCH SCANDALS?

The headlines are flooded with ministries being exposed—Mike Bickle, Joni Lamb, Rod Parsley, and others. With these revelations, many are asking: Is God finished with the American Christian Church? Should we speak out or remain silent? As scandals dominate the media, what should our response be? Do we ignore the chaos and act as if nothing is happening, or do we defend the Body of Christ? Defending the faith does not mean shielding individuals or institutions from accountability. Rather, it means upholding truth, integrity, and righteousness. 1 Peter 3:15 exhorts us: "Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you." Our allegiance is not to people but to Christ and His Church. We stand as defenders of faith, not of corruption or scandal. So many pastors and churches genuinely love God and operate in integrity. Unfortunately, it's often the squeaky wheel that gets the oil and corruption is easier to see than good deeds. So what should we be praying for in this hour?

Let's pray for the following:

  • For continued cleansing. Wolves in sheep’s clothing must be exposed. Too many new believers are discouraged by what they see and hear. The Church must be a place of truth, not deception.

  • For self-examination. 2 Corinthians 13:5 reminds us: “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith.”Before pointing fingers, we must allow God to search our own hearts.

  • For a return to true worship. The Church is about God—nothing else. Programs, friendships, and connections are valuable, but our primary purpose is to hear the Word, worship, and cry out to a holy God. I love the passage in Nehemiah where it says: "Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, ‘Amen! Amen!’ Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.” (Nehemiah 8:5-6). May we return to this kind of reverence. May we seek holiness over hype, truth over trends, and purity over performance. The Church is not finished—God is refining His Bride.
